From the Citadel we have a panoramic overview over the traditional part of the city. In downtown we see the Roman Theatre from 2nd century and the traditional souks. Then we stroll in Jabal Amman with its 19th century houses, in one of them the late King Hussein had been born. Enjoy a delicious Jordanian lunch at an Arabic Restaurant. After that, get an idea of the modernity of the city by driving through Abdoun, a residential area and the centre of nightlife. Back to Amman hotel.

Drive about 30 km to Madaba town, known for its Byzantine mosaic art. Highlight is the visit to St George’s Church with the popular mosaic map of the Holy Land from the 6th century. With two million pieces of local, colored stone, the map depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns in Palestine and the Nile Delta. Short drive to Mount Nebo. From here Prophet Moses overlooked the promised land after 40 yrs in the desert, and Nebo is his alleged burial site. Enjoy the view of the Holy Land (if weather is clear) and see more mosaics inside the early Christian church of Mount Nebo. Then to the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea, one of the most incredible places in the world. Drive 50 km in the north to Jerash, the well preserved city of the Roman Empire, often called Pompeii of the East. Initially built by Alexander the Great, the town started to prosper after the Roman conquest, and was one of the Decapolis cities in northern Jordan. Visit Hadrian’s Arch, built in 130 AD to honor the visit of Emperor Hadrian. Pass the Hippodrome offering space for 15,000 spectators, the impressing Forum, continue to the Temple of Artemis, which columns are 12 meters high and each drum weights 20-40 tons. Other highlights are the Colonnaded Street and the Nymphaeum. Back in Amman enjoy Jordanian lunch at an Arabic Restaurant. Then visit the Citadel hill with remains of the Hercules Temple and the Umayyad Palace as well as the Archaeological Museum. Day1 Queen Alia International Airport – Mt.Nebo – Madaba – Petra

Meeting with our representative at QAIA and transfer to Mt.Nebo & Madaba on the way to Petra

Lunch will be Arabic Sandwich “Shwarma” and some soft drink.

Day2 Petra – Wadi Rum
After breakfast, you will visit Petra.
Entrance to Petra site.

Enjoy 4×4 Jeep tour (2hr) – Depends on departure flight time on Day3, desert jeep tour might be held on Day3

Itinerary

In the morning pick up from your hotel in Amman city , and transfer via the Desert Highway for 2.5 hours to Arava Border to the astonishing rock city Petra for a full day tour. From the Visitor’s Centre start on horse ride back or on foot to the Siq, a narrow gorge, and continue to the beautiful Treasury. Walk along the Street of Facades to the Royal Tombs, the Theatre and Qasr Al Bint. In the afternoon return to your Amman hotel.
